This really struck a chord with me. As a social history curator (now ex!), I’m constantly reminded of the universal human need to leave a record, an imprint, a blueprint and wisdom for the next generations. And yet it’s a slightly twisted irony of life that the wisdom and insights, objects and archives we wish to pass on, largely have significance only for the person leaving them unless they’re lavishly supported by context and provenance. Looking forward to the future blogs!
This is really thoughtful Dad. Made me sad reading about you saying you won’t be around much longer but I understand the intent of the blog! I’ll have to watch your favourite film now! Thank you for always thinking of me x
Don’t worry Tash, I’m not planning to depart anytime soon, not least because there is lot’s I still want to write about for you and James. Yes, you need to watch Bladerunner, in my humble opinion the “Directors Cut” version is the best one.
Good start Allan, hope you keep going. I intend to start writing some stuff down too, partly for kids and grandkids but also now in the anticipation that anything captured digitally has the possibility of living on at least in the virtual world (perhaps read only by AIs but never mind.)
FYI I recently read and can recommend 'A Message to my Children' by Jim Williams, who I happen to know.
